Is it difficult?
How do I change the heater core in a 88 Chevrolet Silverado?
Is it a/c equipped? If it is it is not difficult, and most of the work is done inside and it does come out from under dash. Under hood work is limited to two hoses-radiator drain and maybe a srew or two. Did one a couple of years ago and it was easy.

I do not recall if the 88 still allowed access to the heat core from the engine bay or not. GM used to have the heater core accessable from the engine bay. Other wise you have to access it from inside the truck. should be located on the passanger side below the glove box. Go to your local auto parts store and pick up the mitchelle,Chilton, or Hayes repair manual for the truck. It will give you detailed instructions on removing and replacing the heater core.
Inside your engine compartment is a black box where the heater hoses and heater fan is located(also the AC if you have AC). This box can be split by removing the screws around it, and inside is the heater core. Go to a local auto parts store and look at the Haynes manual on how to remove and replace the core, and at the same time buy the new heater core and possibly some hose, hose clamps and antifreeze. You can do the job if you have the skills to replace the headlight bulb. Good luck and take your time and do the job right. It will pay off in the end.
OH MAN,OH MAN,OH MAN IT, SUCKS!Buy a maual and see for yourself.
no its not too hard to do i think its all done out in the enjiune compartment. locate your fan housing and tear that apart u should find the core if not u will have to tear part of the lower dash out on the passengers side. its going to suck if thats the case. iv fixed them in a older one just plan on taking your time and make shur u get the antifreze ou of the core . i took the carpet up an padding up so i could clean up the mess eiser. good luck
