The instrument panel carrier is designed not only to provide access to parts through removal of the carrier components, but the carrier will also tilt downward as a complete assembly to allow access from the top. If this is desired, remove the retainer screws along the top and bottom of the carrier assembly. The instrument panel will then tilt as an assembly into the cab. It is necessary to unbolt and lower the steering column from the carrier to allow for maximum movement of the instrument panel....good luck

unfortunately ABSOLUTELY YES and if you are not experienced at it figure at least 8 hours and alot of band aids.

they ask for donations but they are Chevy mechanics and most times there is free advce from someone that already asked the same question are you sure it isn't the evaporator coil or plugged up drain line will cause quite a bit of water inside cab.Make sure you know what is leaking it can be really hard some times to know and also you can bypass the heater core by just putting in a T fitting and ahose just going around heater core it may let you know what is up

Unfortunately your answer has to be a yes it does have to be removed. The heater and the AC cores are buried against the firewall inside the HVAC ductwork. They cannot be removed unless everything else is out of the way first. Real smart design, don't you think.
