Heater cores are a big pain in the butt. Have a shop do it. I had my whole heater box replaced, it contained the heater core, ac evaporator and blower motor, the whole dashboard had to come out of the truck.... there was nothing there but the steering colum anf the firewall, it took the shop 5 days and cost me $1000 for the whole job. It should be a little cheaper for you cuz you are just changing the core, I would say around $500.
You will probably have to pull half your interior/dash out. See if you can find a Haynes Repair manual for the car or check ebay for a factory service manual on CD. It's most likely a bunch of trim panels and screws you have to pull off. Be careful though, you're likely to break all that old plastic when you pull it apart.
its not easy but take your time.remove the glove box and you will see the heater box disconnect the power line to the blower motor and you will see the core. you will see the problem . at this point you will have scraped up fingers cause its a small place to get at. the core is about 20 dollars .bring the old core with you to match it up and maybe get a core credit. p.s get new clamps.
