How to change a heater core out of a 1997f-150?

You have to remove the entire instrument panel, and it is no easy task, a bucket load of screws. It is a 7 hour job with a professional mechanic working on it, I would not recommend it be done at home unless you know what you are doing.

How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?

The heater core is leaking on the passenger side of the cabin. How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.

The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper.
How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?
Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.

Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.

Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!

HOW DO I CHANGE THE HEATER CORE ON A 1989 CHEVY CAVILIER?

Located in the center lower portion of the dash panel. Remove the hoses attached to it in the engine compartment, then center console if equipped, then the cover panel and finally the core. A repair manual will give you step by step and pictures to help out.

How do I check the heater core on an 87 ranger?

I am experiencing intermittently foggy windows like my defroster dont work. I also smell syrupy antifreeze smell in the truck at times.

I do have another explanation for the smell though. I changed all the hoses myself and leaked coolant everywhere under the hood. Then I didnt get them tight enough and they leaked. The truck overheated cause I had air in the system and cooked the thermostat. I had it replaced and the hoses tightened. The truck still runs hot (but not overheat) at times.

Could it be the heater core?
How do I check the heater core on an 87 ranger?
i mechanic for a living,,and the only good way to check one is remove it,,and do a pressure check on it,while its under water,,if it leaks then its bad,,i have done a few this way just to narrow it down,,but from what you said about it getting hot,it could be other things causing it,id go back over it,,and check everything,,,and make sure the radiator is not clogged up,,they,ll get gunk built up in the bottom of them,,and it will cause them to heat up sometimes,,other than that,,you,ll have to re-check everything,,if it got hot enough,,it might have blown a head gasket,,it is possible,,,just check it,,or have it pressure checked to see if its ok,,and go from there,,good luck hope this help,s.
How do I check the heater core on an 87 ranger?
Could be, but you likely blew your head gasket or warped the head when you overheated it. If there is no coolant in the passenger floorboard, it probably isn't the heater core.
Sounds like your heater core is leaching coolant which may not show up as an actual wet floor type leak. You could temporarily disconnect the two heater hoses at the firewall and hook them directly together so that the heater core was totally disconnected. Then if the smell and oil deposits on the inside of the windshield did not return (after cleaning the inside of the windshield), you know you likely have a bad heater core. Don't try to repair it, just replace it with a new heater core.
You may want to make sure the right thermostat was put in. Some places put a lower torque springed thermostat in vehicles so the owner will have to keep bringing it back due to slight overheating. Your manual should tell you what type of thermostat is needed.

If it stills causes problems then you may have busted a head gasket. Which you can tell by looking around the head to see if you see any leaks coming from around the seal.

Also if you want to check the heater core you will have to take most of the dash board off and all of the glove box to access it. Just because you dont have anti-freeze in the floor bored doesnt mean the heater core is still good. In some vehicles the components can be very warm and vaperate the liquid which in case would put a thin film on the inside of your window that is hard to get off. By looking at the window if you to have a film, the vaporized anti-freeze will give your window a rainbow looking affect.

Need the procedure to change the heater core on a '65 mustang?

This is not a difficult core to change, especially in a non A/C car as most '65's were. My best advise is to obtain a manual or go to the library and read up if they have an old Motor's or Chilton's manual for it. The other thing you might want to look at while there is the vent box condition as these cars have a history of rust caused water leaks from the vent intake. This would be easier to fix both at the same time while you are there. Good luck!
Need the procedure to change the heater core on a '65 mustang?
heater case comes out after glove box card board removal 6cyl cars have a bolt behind the cylender head [buy a cheap wrench and heat w/ a torch to bend to fit] i dont remember any v8 troubles unless it had ac added.

If you need additional help try this mustang forum it's great.
If its anything like my fairlane, and it should because the mustang was built using my car and t-bird tech, all your bolts should be on the firewall to remove the whole thing, then two cables, one electrical plug, then take that box apart, on your own with that, I only took it out, I didn't have to replace the heater core.

  • Do i need to take off my dashboard in order to change the heater core in an 88 mustang?

Mustangs of that era are the worst to change the heater core. Get a repair manual. The dash will have to come out. It will actually be easier than trying to figure out how to do it with the dash in place.
Do i need to take off my dashboard in order to change the heater core in an 88 mustang?
Possibly, but usually accessible from under the dash, but you have to lay on your back a lot. Unhook the hoses from under the hood first.
Do i need to take off my dashboard in order to change the heater core in an 88 mustang?
Its supposed to come out, but it can sometimes be achieved by just taking some of the bolts ot and some loose then pull it back far enough to reach in and grab it. Becarefull not to break the dash.
I had a 1988 GT. There is no if, ands, buts, or maybes about this. The entire dash has to come out to get to that heater core. Don't use the replacement pieces from Ford, Autozone, or Advance. They are all garbage. Use the replacement part from NAPA %26amp; be sure you get restrictors for the new piece.
If you do not have factory air conditioning then then you remove the glove compartment door and there will be enough room to remove the heater core,if there is factory air conditioning then the entire dash will need removal and the AC needs to be drained on some models and the steering column dropped to the seat.It is around a 4-5 hour job.

Someone changed a heater core in my 92 firebird. it keeps dieing. is there vacume lines behind dash?

i took off dash. but cant find any vacume lines.
Someone changed a heater core in my 92 firebird. it keeps dieing. is there vacume lines behind dash?
There are vacuum lines in the dash, but if your not getting any heat, check the cables that operate the blend air doors. They are cable operated, not vacuum. Also make sure that the heater box ( the plastic housing that has the heater core in it), and make sure it's sealed. If there's outside air getting in there, it will affect the heat in the car.
Someone changed a heater core in my 92 firebird. it keeps dieing. is there vacume lines behind dash?
there are some vacum lines connected to the selector switch for the heat a/c control, however, your problem may be as simple as not having enough coolant in your system.

    Heater core in Chevy Tracker?

Does anyone know how big a job it is to change a heater core in a 2000 Chevy Tracker? I was told by a local garage the heater core itself was only available from Chevy and cost $300! Does this sound right? Thanks.
    Heater core in Chevy Tracker?
Changing the heater core on a '00 Tracker is moderately difficult. To do it right you must remove the entire dash pan (just like a Ford), but besides that it's easy. The problem with removing the dash pan is the you will probably never get all the rattling out after you reinstall in. As far as getting the core you local parts store should be able to get it for you. You can go to www.advanceautoparts.com or www.autozone.com and check on-line to make sure. If they can get it and you don't mind using used parts go to www.junkyarddog.com (it will link you national salvage yards) good luck.
