The 91 and 92s are different and longer. Some say 8.5 hours, some say not that long. Some say take steering column off, some say no. Anyone? I want to do it myself. Anyone have pics and step by step instructions? Thanks
Does anyone have step by step directions to change a heater core in a 1991 Camaro?
Replacing a heater core is probably the toughest job you can undertake. If you took it to a repair shop, you would pay anywhere from $700.00 to $900.00 to replace a $50.00 part.
You would have to remove your dash and many other things in replacing the core. You should NOT attempt it with acquiring a repair manual for your vehicle that gives you step by step instructions. If you are not mechanically inclined, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT.
You have 2 hoses going into the back firewall into your heater core. One delivers the coolant to the core and the other returns it to the engine. If you live in a warm climate as I do in Florida, it is best to take the hose delivering the coolant to the core and cut it. Then cut the return coolant hose. Obtain a brass pipe that will fit snugly into the hose and and connect it to the return hose.
You will no longer have a heater, but you will save an awfully lot of money or headaches if you try and do it yourself. However, if you live in a cold climate, are you willing to spend that much money on the vehicle?
