Hi , If it isn't leaking don't go there yet. Do the thermostat first.
How do you remove the heater core from a 92 eagle premier?
Hi, Anthony I hope this can get to you some how. What you have going on is an air lock. Keep the tank resoivor full and warm up the engine and let it cool down many times till it works right. Some times I have to park it on a steep hill. Good luck Paul

Does some noes how hard to change a heater core on a 1997f150?

I do believe it's behind the glove compartment. If you are decently good with tinkering it should take no more than two hours.
Does some noes how hard to change a heater core on a 1997f150?
hard is only that one has to lay in odd way to get to screws and like other one said couple hours work to remove everything only tip i can give is grease the hoses really well and dont twist on them to much when push back on an dreplace the hoses while you got it all a part might fine

repair manual type this dont think you will need it not much more than removing a lot of screws really thats the hard part you have to lay side ways or upside down to do it

the easiest way is to pay a professional to do it...the entire dash board and air distribution box must be removed - not really a job for an amateur.

How do u change a heater core in a 88 mustng gt?

Goldwing is right, it's a very tedious time consuming job. I've professionally done alot of these, mustang, thunderbird, cougars ...all the same. And it's never an enjoyable job. If you do it yourself make sure you have a repair manual and give yourself lots of time to do it.

One tip: the headlight and hazzard switches on the instrument bezel pop out...you don't have to pull bezel back and unplug them.....messed up on that the first time I did one ''/
How do u change a heater core in a 88 mustng gt?
This is one of the hardest job out there. It is under the dash and is not easy to remove. In most cases you need to remove the dash to get to it. My advice is get it dun.
How do u change a heater core in a 88 mustng gt?
The entire dash needs to be removed to get access to the heater control box. Is it leaking or are you just not getting heat. If it is not leaking and it is a heat issue the problem can usually be resolved with out having to replace the core. An air pocket in the heater core will prevent it from producing heat, so will any blockage. A defective heater control valve will not allow coolant to circulate through the heater core.

Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher

Do i have to rip the whole dash off? is there a website that will show me how? HELP!!!!
How do you change a heater core on a VW Jetta (96).?
You can go on line and look around. Heater cores can be a pain to near impossible. I can't speak for the VW jetta. You may want to price out an independent car shop. Try car talk dot com and look for recommended mechanics. You put your zip in. Call around and get a price. It may be easier and best to get it a shop to do the repair. At least price it out. The part is not cheap either. It is a super common problem and some shops have the practice and can get it done with out issues, but it will not be cheap. Sorry

I have a factory shop manual and found several areas in which no guidance was offered or where information was incomplete.

I wouldn't start this unless you are an above average mechanic and have good tools and better than average patience.

Some manuals are poor and not very complete. If you don't have some experience and ablities it can be tough. I recall you have to remove the dash and if you have AC it will complicate it more. Good luck

its not a real bad job its at the bottom of the dash in the center, the heater hoses are a real bear because you have to get those from underneath the car. go to the library and get detailed instructions

I believe you go through the Glove Box, once it is removed the rest is simple, just reverse what you did when you pulled the worn out one.
How do you change a heater core in a 95 chevy corsica?
that sucks you have to lift the car to get to the hoses then hope your skinny enough to fit yourself underneath the dash board to take all those stupid asss tiny screws out. Good luck not loosing any
just like you would change anything else? Take the old one off and put the new one on. It will be a real *****. First locate where the heater core is. It is probably on the pass side on the lower fire wall. Peel back the carpeting (it should only be velcroed) look for a box approximately 10x7. ahhh...screw this go get a hayes manual $5.00 or free at your library.
The heater core is in the center of the dash up and right of the gas petal it sucks all u need is a 1/4 inch ratchet set with a few extensions and a few swivels u have to take off the outside where your vent lines run to and that reveals the heater core the u remove your heater hose from the firewall in the engine compartment then u go back under the dash and undo the heater core straps, remove and replace i did one on a 96 Berretta and it was a pain took about 3 hours...mostley all ove the tiny bolts are 8mm

If the heater core isn't leaking, it isn't bad.

You may have a problem with the flapper doors in the ducting. This car may have a valve to control the water going thru the heater core as well.
1989 Chevy Corsica V6 Heater Core?
u need to be on pimp my ride or somethin, but for real, go to a chop shop
well,if the core is on the pass side then replace.if on drivers side-ouch!-trade it in.
That's a tough chore, you have to just about remove your dashboard from the car to get to the thing. First thing you'll need is a haynes or chilton's manual. then remove the bolts securing the dasto the firewall on the passenger side of the car, next drop the duct work in front of the heater core, then drain the radiator fluid from the car. remove the lines from the heater core at the fire wall, remove the core, replace, reconnect the lines, refill the radiator, replace the duct work, and reinstall the dash, make sure you don't break any wires or lines connecting the duct controls. Sounds easy right? Good Luck. A shop will usually charge around $250- $400 It will take you a solid day, you will cuss a lot, and God himself will turn his back on yo for weeks becuse of the things you will say about him. If you or some one you know is hndy you can try this. Go to an auto parts store and buy a tube of radiator stop leak, (wait for the good part) you will also need a drill operated fluid transfer pump, a cheap one is about $20 bucks, some hose that is the same size as the in and out on your core, and some HOT water. Hook the bottom line to your core, and to the pump on the drill, take the HOT water mixed with stop leak and pour it into the hose hooked to the core, put it on the pump. Turn the drill on and circulate it for as long as you care to or until no water leaks from the core (you may burn up the drill) Then flush it with clean water and reconnect the system. I say do this the hard way because I don't advocate putting metal flakes into your cars coolings system, which could potentially foul up something that isn't a problem now, It might cost $75 but could save you $300.

My heater core is leaking antifreeze and needs to be changes is there another way I can fix it.?

I drive a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant my heater does not work because it was leaking now the winter is coming and I need to have it fixed my mechanic told me it will cost me $800 because he has to remove the dash board and that takes four hours of labor so is there another way I can fix the heater core.
My heater core is leaking antifreeze and needs to be changes is there another way I can fix it.?
Easiest fix is to simply by-pass the heater core.

Look for the 2 hoses the run into the firewall that go to the heater core and connect them togther. It just means you won't have heat inside the car.
My heater core is leaking antifreeze and needs to be changes is there another way I can fix it.?
Get a repair manual.. (chiltons) ... you might just have to take a few things out... like the glove box... and blower motor... to get to it... not really a big deal...
If the heater core is leaking it has to be replaced. any stop leak additive will usually result in the heater core becoming plugged and will have the same effect as having no heater core and is not a guaranteed cure
    Just replace it!!!

What does it mean if you can't get any heat from a '89 Dodge Ram 4x4.Changed the thermostat, heater core?

    Dodge ram repairs
What does it mean if you can't get any heat from a '89 Dodge Ram 4x4.Changed the thermostat, heater core?
if its air blocked you can bleed it out by opening the radiator cap if it doesn't have a bleed valve on it,its very possible that's the problem because when you changed the thermostat you would have gotten air in the system and that will cause you not to have no heat, feel of the heater hoses going in to the firewall and see if they both are getting hot if not try bleeding the system out and make sure its full of coolant, low coolant will cause no heat also, and make sure the heater control valve is working on it,turn it all the way to heat, and leave it their for a while so the coolant can circulate real good ,good luck and happy holidays.
What does it mean if you can't get any heat from a '89 Dodge Ram 4x4.Changed the thermostat, heater core?
well first place would have been to check and see what was bad so now try heater control switch what you turn from heat to cold inside the truck... you can feel the heater hoses and tell it coolant is flowing thru them one hot its not and flow is block would have been cheaper to check
assuming your coolant levels are found to be normal, suggest to check the hoses coming in and out of the heater. Suggest if they are both hot with the engine up to operating temperature then the problem is likely in the heater damper control system. As a point of interest, even with a faulty thermostat, you should normally still get SOME heat out of the heater. Please be reminded that checking coolant levels on a hot engine can cause severe scalding to self and others, and this is why this should be done with the engine cooled down completely.
Did you cross the heater hoses? Maybe you have air lock in the cooling system or the heater control valve is not working properly
Here's a few suggestions when dealing with heat or heater core issues.

No1 test the anti-freeze with a anti-freeze tester that most Wally Marts etc carry for around 8 bucks or so.I f the tester and the coolants colour indicates it's worn out or dirty change the coolant in the vehicle by using the rad's drain plug , adding water steadily and reflushing the rad till it basically comes out as water mostly, then add the coolant mixture.Make sure unless you live in the very severe coldest climates not to really mix the anti-freeze and water more then 50/50 or to about -45, plus don't dump coolant on the ground it's sweet taisting to animals and will kill dogs and cats etc.

No2 Once proper coolant mixtures and levels have been established cold start up the engine with no blower motors on at all then squeeze the top rad rose or thermostat house.

If no pressure builds up within a few mins or the engine has reached it's normal warm up temperatures then more likely the thermostat isn't the right one for the engine or that season of the year or the thermostat is warn or faulty.be sure you check the vehicle under the hood and underneath the vehicle for any leaks , from the engine or any of the rad hoses or rad or even the over flow container etc ,

No3 if the pressure builds up and no leaks then as the engine is still idling listen and watch from a safe distance for the fan to enage as you realize the hose, plus go into the vehicle and set the heat on high with full blower motor on. Then go back under the hood and reach up to the two smaller heater core hoses and feel them are they both getting hot , check the temperature gage to see what the engines temperature range is at and go back to see if the fan has engaged or the two hoses are hot.

If only one of the heater core hoses is only hot then that indicates that the heater core maybe clogged or faulty or that there is a air lock in the heater core unit's system. If the fan never engages with engine fairly worm or hot check the rad fan's fuse under the hood in fuse box and the fan relay, plus check the temperature sensor and rad plug in connections, plus visually check the wires for damages or if their fray or bare or burnt etc.

No4 with blower motor on high still doors closed is there any scent coming from the venting system that is irrating if so the heater core is faulty and requires replacement, plus if you turn the windhield defroster on high does a scum or a greasy type of stuff appear on vehicles interior part of the windshield, if so again it says heater core needs replacing asap.

No5 If the two hoses did get hot or say not hot enough then you may require a better temperature range of thermostat or the heater core maybe slightly clogged etc.

No6 if you suspect the heater core is clogged or air blocked then with the engine cold all coolant levels at the proper levels , disconnect the two small heater core hoses , switch the two hoses around and be extra cautious bec the shafts that hold the hoses onto the heater core are mostly made from plastics.Once their switched around and on firmly start the engine up let idle awhile then turn heater on and allow it to run a few mins while checking the temperature gage in process then shut engine off , allow the engine to cool to a comfortable temperature and switch the two hoses around again and recheck the system again with engine idling. You can also force water or air through the heater cores hose connectors and keep checking once you've flushed the heater core for that nasty scent or that gummy greasy stuff bec if that appears you know the heater core was clogged but isn't anymore and it's no good.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if the vehicle does have a breather valve on the thermostat housing etc open it up once engine is warm and watch for the air bubbles once you see fluid only coming out you probably have most of the air out , but try this a few different times too, plus another way to remove air bubbles is to leave the rad or over flow cap off as it sits running and that will adventually forcing the air out too.

Oh Lord, have you got a lot of work ahead. Just get out the big wallet and take it to the shop. Take a look in Chiltons Auto Repair Manual at the library and you will see if you really want to break your back on that one. I hear them starting up the big money sucking machine, but hold still until it's over and you'll have heat again.

That is one of the jobs where the mechanics earn their money. Not fun at all.

I changed my heater core today and...?

I am planning on installing a new radiator and all hoses. I am also going to have someone change the water pump and flush the cooling system out. It's all original on a 96 F150 with over 260K miles, so I figure it's all due. So anyways, my question is does it matter when I have it flushed? I would like to change the radiator and hoses before I take it to the shop but I don't want all the stuff from the engine getting in the new radiator and hoses. I haven't actually hooked the heater core into the system yet. The last time it was flushed was about 5 years ago.

    Thanks.
I changed my heater core today and...?
If I were doing this in my garage, I would unhook the old radiator, and use the old hoses to flush the engine block out seperately. Then I would replace the water pump, put the new radiator in, then replace all the hoses and hook up the new heater core. Fill with coolant/antifreeze and would be on my way. Good luck.
I changed my heater core today and...?
FLUSH IT FIRST, THEN WHEN YOU REPLACE ALL THAT STUFF,YOU'LL BE STARTING WITH A CLEAN SYSTEM.
    flush first
if you are changing the radiator, new water pump and hoses. there really isnt much to clean out. the block doesnt hold the little stuff, like the heater core and radiator cores do. dont think it would be of much use to do it after that is all intalled new.

just bought a 1988 ford mustang GT 5.0,The heater core went out.How hard is it to change the heater core in this mustang? I never changed one in a ford product.Thank you!!
Need help on removing heater core?
The heater core is located behind the glove compartment.

You will need to remove the two heater hoses that enter the

firewall on the passenger's side. They are right next to each

other. Now, remove the glove compartment. The heater core

is behind it. Remove the bracket holding the core. Now,

remove the heater core. Installation is the reverse. Make

sure you have the heater core top side up. This job should

    take you approx. 40 minutes.
Need help on removing heater core?
Check manuals to see how much stuff you have to take out to get to it. You can check under the dash board, usually on the right side. To make this easier, take out:

    right side seat

    glove compartment drawer and cover

    center console

Under the hood, go to the firewall. Disconnect the two heater hoses that pass through the firewall to the heater core.
i think you have to drop the heater box.its more time consuming then hard.

Your best bet is to get a repair manual (about $20.00) at your auto parts store. It has step-by-step instuctions on how to do about any repair you need to do. The heater core is usually under the dash on the passenger side and a lot of times you have to remove part of the dash to get to it.

    Leaking heater core?

98 ford expedition heater core changed last year all ready leaking why is it leaking so fast. the first time it leaked outside my suv now it is leaking inside my suv . and could it be something else as in a oring seal and not the core it self.
    Leaking heater core?
Could be that it just wasn't remanufactured to spec, or it started leaking in a new area. Make sure your radiator pressure cap is functioning, as you could be winding up with an overpressurized cooling system and it's causing the weakest link to break.
    Leaking heater core?
It most likely leaking at the hose clamps, have them checked and tightened.
Heater sores are made out of very soft metal, but should last more than a year unless damaged on installation. As mentioned check the connections, but be careful not to over tighten as the metal is soft. You may want to try a radiator seal first to see if that does the trick. Is a very inexpensive first step.
More and more these days we are seeing more cheapo heater cores,,they just arent built as tough as they where 20 years ago or so,,,one thing you might do is to reduce the internal water pressure by changing your radiator cap to a lower pressure one.

Other than that,,you can have a heater core custom built at any radiator shop,,and solve the problem once and for all.
Generally all connections are done outside the passenger compartment. When u say it leaked outside your SUV do u mean it was leaking in the engine compartment? What might have happen is that a hose line deteriorated, the service people only replaced the hose and charged you for a core? When the core was replaced did they return the old core to you? It could also be that a used or re-manufactured core was installed and now it has failed. Where was the work done? Even though I have new vehicles I never have work done at dealers because you are not allowed to monitor the work in progress. I go to my local Pep Boys, there I can hang by the door, BS with the mechanic, ask questions and see what is going on. I never leave my car or truck there un-attended. I haven't had(not yet) major work done so I haven't had to stay there more that a couple of hours for a brake job. I also take a small ice chest with some Gator Aid bottles and give one to the mechanic. It's helps to be on their good side. Always ask what the new part looks like, ask in a friendly way as if you are trying to learn and not because you miss trust them. Good luck.
Somebody mentioned the hose clamps... they are at the other side of the firewall. You are dealing with the heater core. Is it possible for it to fail after one year? Absolutely! It's a ford...
inside (left ft floor) heater core. other maintenance neglect could be the reason it went so fast.
Check the two hoses that run to your heater core they could have dried out and started to leak. also if the mechanics that replaced your heater core used regular pluming type hose clamps than they could have tightened them too much and this will cause the hose to rip which will start to leak in a short amount of time. Or the heater core it self could be defective. Also look at your coolant if its brown or if it has white peaces in the fluid than you have corrosion which will eat away at the metal parts of the coolant system and also clog up small passage ways in the radiator and the heater core causing pressure to build up and this will cause a leak.

the whole dash has to be removed,, I believe.

    real pain in the butt.
It is not all that hard, just time consuming, It not like you pulling the engine or something, you can do it you just need to be patient and devote some time to it. Will save you alot of money if you do it yourself
It's really not that bad. I believe all you have to do is open up theglove compartment and remove the inner glove compartment and maybe one more inner cover and the heater core should be exposed. Then all you have to do is drain about two gallons of anti-freeze and then you can remove the old heater core then you can install the new one. Then fill it back up with anti- freeze. Then put the glove box back together.

How do i change a heater core?

the heater core is inside the dash on most vehicles, generally speaking you would have to crawl under or remove the dash and split the heater case to replace the core, first step should be buy a service manual and then decide if this is something you should attempt, the core wont be cheap but the parts you might break can be alot more!
How do i change a heater core?
You do not change the heater core. The radiator repair shop does that for you. The job intails crawling under the dash --- removing the junk that keeps it their and taking it out and taking the new core and installing just as it was when it rolled out of the factory

You may have coolant residue still in the heater box,a defective new heater core,or leaking hoses/inlet tubes leading to the core itself. Some of those newer heater cores have swivel inlets that are crimped down, and I have seen those leak.If its a 1987-1996 F250,I believe those have an access panel behind the glovebox to look in and change the core. You might want to take a peek.A leaking core (itself) normally will fog the windshield up when its set on DEFROST.
If the heater core was leaking it is possible the smell is coming from the carpet in the cab. some of the time when heater cores leak they will drip in to the cab and get in to the carpet. you will need to pull the carpet out of the cab and have it cleaned. other wise just wait and it should dry up.
I'd check for loose or leaky heater hoses...make sure everything's tight. Also just to cover bases I'd look for leaky gaskets at the thermostat housing, etc. You'd be surprised what you can smell inside. On a truck that recent I'm surprised that the heater core went bad that soon.
'Antifreeze' smell can be taking you down the wrong path.

If you changed the heater core, this should have stopped antifreeze ingress, BUT the smell doesnt go away immediately.

    Other things simulate antifreeze smells...

First, leaking brake fluid from the master cylinder system can sometimes smell like antifreeze. Have you had to add brake fluid to your car..

Second, refrigerant (R134a based) can smell like antifreeze. If you have a refrigerant leak, maybe this is what you are smelling.

Last, a true coolant (antifreeze) leak can still be happening. You need to find out what liquid is ACTUALLY disappearing from your

    vehicle

Eliminate brakes, coolant, or AC refrigerant and I think you will be on course.
Have you checked the radiator to see if it's using anti freeze? If so and you see white smoke it's time for head gaskets. If not but you still smell it then you are very close to blowing a hose or heater core out. Might have a small leak in the radiator that's getting blown back into the cab.
I have a 2003 F-150 that you can smell anti-freeze inside and outside. I took it back to the dealer under warranty and they checked it out and couldn't find a leak nowhere. I'm puzzled too.

Heater cores are a big pain in the butt. Have a shop do it. I had my whole heater box replaced, it contained the heater core, ac evaporator and blower motor, the whole dashboard had to come out of the truck.... there was nothing there but the steering colum anf the firewall, it took the shop 5 days and cost me $1000 for the whole job. It should be a little cheaper for you cuz you are just changing the core, I would say around $500.
You will probably have to pull half your interior/dash out. See if you can find a Haynes Repair manual for the car or check ebay for a factory service manual on CD. It's most likely a bunch of trim panels and screws you have to pull off. Be careful though, you're likely to break all that old plastic when you pull it apart.
its not easy but take your time.remove the glove box and you will see the heater box disconnect the power line to the blower motor and you will see the core. you will see the problem . at this point you will have scraped up fingers cause its a small place to get at. the core is about 20 dollars .bring the old core with you to match it up and maybe get a core credit. p.s get new clamps.

I need to know a website to go to to find out how to change a heater core in a 93 chev cavilier?

you don't need a book its actually the easiest heater core I know of to change.Take the trim down in the center under the radio just above the hump. It's the black trim under the dash.and the heater core is right there very easy access
I need to know a website to go to to find out how to change a heater core in a 93 chev cavilier?
I dont know about a website, but books are available for just about every make, model and year of car out there. I think %26quot;Paine%26quot; is one maker of such books. They may not be as good as what Mr. Goodwrench has available, but they are available at most discount auto parts stores. When you find the book, then check out ebay books, barnes and Noble used books etc. for bargains. Not the most fun job more than likely. good luck.

Changed thermostat and heater core but still no heat.Any answers guys?

1998 Chrysler Concorde .I bought the parts and had a mechanic put it in. And he said that it would be more money for him to see what is the problem. Can anyone help me on what could be the problem?
Changed thermostat and heater core but still no heat.Any answers guys?
First of all I would find a different mechanic. He should have checked it out before he installed the parts and probably charged you a fortune. Also it wouldn't have hurt him to check it out after it didn't work.
Changed thermostat and heater core but still no heat.Any answers guys?
Water pump, heater control valve, blocked pipe ?
did he purge you cooling system you may have air in it?are the heater hoses hooked up right, some are one way, just some ideas on why its not putting out heat for you.
    water pump
this is mainly due to blocked hoses or blocked heater radiator inside the dashboard also heater valve and thermostat should be checked.
after all that and still no heat? did he bleed the air out of the cooling system? it also could be the water pump. after you warm the car up good then feel both heater hoses to see if both are hot. if not then the air needs to be bled out.

    Here's the trick:

    Luckily it ain't a 96...

Either way, dodge puts all the a/c and heating in a single box that is bolted to the firewall. You have to pull the whole danged box out. If it were a 96, whole danged dash comes out. On yours, only half comes out.

Disconnect battery so you don't have to worry about shorting something out or blowing out the airbags when you move the wires..

On yours, you just have to pull the heater controls, radio, and the entire knee bolster (the lower trim panel that faces your knees), including the lower center console (ash tray, misc storage, etc).

Get all the misc wiring harnesses, vacuum lines, and other BS out of the way and disconnected from the box.

Drain radiator. Disconnect the heater hoses.

Disconnect the a/c lines (pull the 13mm that secures the line to a block. Then take the two torx head screws out of the block). Then you have to pull all the nuts that secures the heater box to the firewall.

Put the box on the ground, and take it apart. About 400 screws hold it together.

Make sure when you reassemble the box all the doors move...else you get to do it again...

    Reassemble.

also how do i flush the system. I dont know where the drain plug is
I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
The airbag light is on because the computer has detected a problem with the airbag circuit. Does that have anything to do with changing the heater core? Possible, but very unlikely. Ask the guy at Napa and see what he says about it.

The drain plug will be at the lowest point on your radiator, on the inside (toward the engine).
I paid the guy at NAPA to change the heater core in my 2000 s10 blazer. Why is the airbag light on?
might have knock off a wire while he was under dash

    and type into search box

    how to flush a radiator

drain plugs are along bottom edge of most radiators and you can always remove lower hose to drain really best way to flush as well remove a hose crank car let run coolant wil push out add water hose into radiator to flush not hard
The air bag light may or may not be related to the repair. Was it on when you picked up the vehicle? If so, there may be a connector that's unplugged.

You don't need to find the drain if you're going to flush the system. You simply need a hose connector.
many newer cars have no drain...if none on yours pull off the lower hose to flush...didn't the mechanic flush and refill with 50/50 coolant/water? if not shame on him for a crappy job....that goes for the air bag too..the computer detected that it was unhooked to remove dash,,,he should have disconnected battery to do work
the mechanic may have needed to remove it to replace the heater core?

    But that's not likely

give your mechanic and have him look at it.
Just take the lower radiator hose off to drain. Put it back on and fill with radiator flush and run it for a few minutes then remove the hose again to drain. Put the hose back on and fill with coolant.

The heater core is located in the center console usually under the radio and environmental controls. You'll need to get access to the area back there.

Typically they are held in by either a few screws or clips. You'll need to disconnect the connectors to the heater core that come out the fire wall also.

How much does it cost to replace a heater core?

I have a 1995 Ford Contour GL, 2.0 that I believe needs a heater core. I don't have time right now to replace it, so I am wondering about how much it would cost for parts and labor for the replacement. The dash does not need to be taken out, however the center console and shifter assembly does (without tearing apart wires and effing the overdrive). Other than that it's just a matter of removing some things and changing it out. Thanks in advance for your responses!
How much does it cost to replace a heater core?
I don't know the specific time for it but if that's all your saying needs to be taken out then maybe 2 or 3 hours labor and then parts cost so possibly $200-400 in that range. How do you know it's leaking? Coolant on the floor? If you don't have the money it can be bypassed since you won't be using it much in the warmer season.

  • How do change a heater core in a 1995 chevy lumina? and is it very hard to do?

Almost ALL heater cores are difficult to replace. Not sure about yours, but it's probablybehind the radio or glove compartment. You'll have to remove hoses first, and the newer clamps are attatched with a compression fitting. You have to push on hose while holding pipes from heater core. You'll get a pretty big puddle of coolant on your garage floor....Then comes the HARD part, you may have to remove glove box ,or radio,or at least some of the dash or trim.In short,it's a real pain.A shop will probably do the work for around 150 bucks including rebuilt core.Good luck.

it is a massive job. You will to remove the airbox from under the dash and alot of other stuff. this is one job where it's really best to let a mechanic do it, imo.
You have to pull the entire dashboard, most likely. GM put the system under the dash starting in 1990 on their 1991 models. As a result, these are a four or five hour job. The best bet is to buy a service manual so you can make a more informed decision.

How long does it takes to change a heater core on a s10 chevy blazer?

The shop guides say that it should take 12 to 14 hours to do the job. I have done it in as little as 4 hours though. If you unbolt the steering column and let it drop to the seat and then remove the screws that run it at the defrosters right beside the windshield and then remove the 2 bolts in the dash right beside the kick panels the entire dash will slide back about 6 inches which is just barely enough room to get the cover off the heater box you should be able to do it in a lot less time than they call for. It is a back killing job though with tons of twisting and bending to get at it this way but it saves a lot of time. The wires and everything that are behind the dash can stay connected and will give you just enough room to get in there so leave them connected. Hope I have been helpful.

Remove the ECU mounted on the hump under the dash. Remove the steering column, remove the kick panels in front of each front door. There you will see a bolt on each side in a U bracket. Loosen these bolts 1/2 inch. Disconnect the radio antenna lead and the vacuum connector for the dash heater controls. Remove the 5 bolts at the front of the dash, where it meets the windshield. The dash will roll down to the the front seat. Have a friend help and lift the dash off the U brackets, and remove the dash. Under the hood on the right side, remove the ECM, drain the cooling system and discharge the A/C system. Disconnect the heater hoses and A/C line where they enter the fire wall. Remove the 3 nuts on the firewall. Back on the inside remove the 3 bolts securing the HVAC unit to the firewall. Remove the HVAC unit from the vehicle, and place on a work bench. Disassemble the HVAC unit and remove the heater core. Replace the core with a new one and reassemble. Takes about 4 hours for experienced tech. 10 hours for the novice.

How to change out the heater core on a 1994 Chevy Blazer?

Changing the core should not be attempted by anyone. You have to remove your dash as well as work under the hood. Most mechanics try everything to keep from replacing the core. Anyways, once you have dash torn apart, (your core will resemble your radiator) drain out as much fluids as possible, disconnect the hoses under the hood and then begin the dismounting unit. Reverse the procedure for replacement.

If your heater is simply not producing heat in the cab, try flushing your system and replacing the engine thermostat.

Ok im doing mine right now to, buy the book first, then you need to pull out the glove box, ash tray, and disconnect all the cables leading to the heater box under the dash, then you get into the motor compartment and where the heater and air conditioner is you should find maybe 3 nuts that are around the air conditioner or the heater box, don't touch the bolts, one might be a ***** because of the inner fender, and you might need to lower that to get to it, then grab the heater box from the inside and lift and pull it out,

It's a very involved repair that you may not want to tackle yourself.

However, since I don't know what your abilities are, you can go buy a repair manual (or just look through one) to see what it involves and decide if it's something you think you'll want to tackle yourself.

If you do decide to do it yourself, plan on it taking at least a full day of working on it if you've never done one, and maybe even make sure the next day is clear, too, just in case.

if you don't know what you're doing, leave the repairs to the pro's....you're asking for more trouble and more expense if you try to repair things you can't.

How much to fix a heater core?

I have a Ford Tarus 99 how much would it be to fix a heater core??? Plus if we have changed thermostat, flushed ratiator and heater still don't work it the heater core definatly the problem????
How much to fix a heater core?
Ok a few questions for you. Does the blower blow air? And did all the air get out of the system? If it didn't it could be causing a air pocket that won't let the fluid flow. but if all of that is good then it really shouldn't cost that much depending on where you live
How much to fix a heater core?
When you had done all of the items. When you where running the car did you turn on the heater? It will take some time for the new fluids to make its way back into the core. Start car and turn on the heater. Open radiator cap first to get a good flow. Warm up car. Check after about 10 min. to see if you have good flow in radiator. When there is a good flow. Then check to see if you have heat. Replace radiator cap. Then recheck heater. If not working still, Then check for a collapsed heater feed line hose.
The labor time needed to make a heater core repair is 5 hours per ALLDATA. The factory heater core is $74.00, so this is not a really quick or cheap repair. I'm guessing from what you have done so far on the vehicle that you are having overheating problems. The only thing that really happens to heater cores is they begin leaking when they get older. If you are having overheating problems....the first thing to check (since you have replaced the thermostat) would be to make sure the electric fan is kicking on like it is supposed to....these are controlled with by a module and I believe they operate at 2 different speeds. I hope this helps.

How to change out a heater core in a 1996 Mustang Coupe?

I believe it is similar to the placement in a camaro. To find your heater core, look under your hood for a silver canister with silver lines running into the firewall into the interior. I am betting it is located behind the passenger side glove box. Should be about 3 nuts to remove glove box and use a flashlight to see how to unbolt heater core.

I need a diagram on how to change a heater core in a 1994 cadilliac deville sedan?

the only place I know to get any type of diagram for the 94 Cadillac is from the original shop manual (not a Chilton's) that's usually given to shop mechanics at the dealership. However, you can buy one online or over the phone, but it may be a little pricey (between $70-$100 depending on condition). Check out Faxon Auto Literature (website below) and you might be able to get what you need. If they don't have it, they might be able to point you in the right direction to get one.

How do i change the heater core on a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee?

Before you can even start, you need to go to a nearby mechanic and have the A/C system evacuated. Then you need to drain the cooling system.

With that out of the way, disconnect the A/C line spring locks (special tool required), remove the entire dashboard a piece at a time, unbolt the HVAC box from the engine compartment side of the firewall (which involves removing a half dozen things from the engine compartment first), pry open the HVAC box, remove the heater core. Installation is the reverse of removal.

If you already know what you're doing, you're looking at around 8 solid hours. If you don't, a couple days.

94 jetta VW 5speed heater core location?
It's a major chore that requires removing the dash.LOOSE THE EVAPORATOR FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND TAKE OF THE COVER ON THE RIGTH SIDE UNDERNEAT THE BLOWER AND THE COVER FOR THE GAS PEDAL, LOOSE THE NUTS THAT HOLD THE WHOLE PLASTIC SHROUDS

PULL IT AND TAKE THE CLIPS OFF THAT HOLD THE HEATER

AND EVAPORATOR TOGETHER THEN YOU GONNA HAVE TO PULL THE PANEL SO YOU CAN GET THE BLOWER COMPARTMENT DOWN A LITTLE BIT, ENOUGH TO PLAY WITH THE HEATER CORE COMPARTMENT,UNSCREW THE BOTTOM BOLT ON THE HEATER PANEL TO GET MORE SPACE AND FINALY TURN IT AROUND JUST ENOUGH TO PULL IT UP JUST THE HEATER CORE AND THERE YOU GO.

95ford mustang having problems with it over heating changed heater core, changed thermostat, changed gaskets
    Your radiator is bad
Is the cooling fan coming on? (if electric) have you checked the radiator for good flow??

start car up,,run until operating temperature is reached,,with radiator cap off,,,then check to see if you have good water movement inside radiator,,(this will not tell you if the cores are plugged though) after your vehicle is at full operating temp,,place your hand across the front of the radiator itself,,,and feel back and forth,,,,you should feel a constant heat at all area's of the radiator,,,if you feel large area's which are cool..then there is a good chance that the cores are plugged.

correcting this problem will be difficult,,,sometime having a flush of your cooling system will help if the cores are not solidley plugged,,,but if they are,,,you will need a new radiator.
it could be the water pump,or maybe the entire cooling system needs cleaned out.
How long does it take and how fast are you driving. The water pump impeller can corrode and slow coolant flow, radiator can be partially plugged, thermostat can be acting up, as you can see there is a number of things that can cause hot run condition. No one can diagnose this problem over the Internet properly. Good luck.

don't see water coming from water pump. it seems to overheat and evaporate anti-freeze
95ford mustang having problems with it over heating changed heater core, changed thermostat, changed gaskets
Could be water pump not working properly. Could be clogged passages in radiator. Rad may need rodded out. If thermostat is working properly, water is not flowing properly for some reason.
95ford mustang having problems with it over heating changed heater core, changed thermostat, changed gaskets
check your intake gasket also run a pressure test on collant system see if it holds pressure then run a compression test on cylinders
it could be the fan not turnning fastest to pull air in. the cluch could be bad
Water pump failure is not always noted as a leaker. Occasionally, the pump can fail and not leak, allowing the impeller to either not turn in the housing, or electrolysis has eroded the impeller away altogether.

Also a possibility is the failure of the cooling fan at the radiator. Test it to see that it does indeed engage.

Another possibility is a restriction in the radiator core.

Do you know for sure that it is overheating? Any possibility that the gauge is in error? Check the sender.

    Happy Motoring
Check the water pump anyway, could be the impeller. Check the radiator, see if you have flow, other than that. double check all water sources.

  • 2003 ford taurus, no heat or rear defrost. changed heater core, thermostat & fuses. didn't help. ideas?

My 1999 taurus lost heat last year. Freeze plugs needed replaced. So I had no radiator fluid. Check fluid.
2003 ford taurus, no heat or rear defrost. changed heater core, thermostat %26amp; fuses. didn't help. ideas?
Let's tackle your rear window defrost. Interestingly, it's controlled by two relays. Rear Window Defrost Relay #1 in the Smart Junction box controls Rear Window Defrost Relay #2 in the Relay Center Box. Relay #1 would also turn on your outside mirror heaters as well.

Relay #1 is controlled by Fuse 2.27 in the Smart Junction Box under your dash.

Relay #2 is controlled by Fuse 2.07 in the Smart Junction Box under your dash.

The Switch that turns on the Rear defogger is controlled by Fuse 2.19 in the Smart Junction Box under your dash.

The Rear Window Defrost Grid is controlled by Fuse 1.11 in the Battery Junction Box under the hood next to your battery.

So, it's not just ONE fuse you need to check, it's FOUR!.

More likely, somone forgot to correctly plug in the connectors when they put the dash back together. That would account for no heat too...
2003 ford taurus, no heat or rear defrost. changed heater core, thermostat %26amp; fuses. didn't help. ideas?
Probably a vacuum leak, or a malfunctioning vacuum valve. Some cars have a valve in the coolant line leading into the heater core, but I'm pretty sure Taurus' don't have those. Does the HVAC system blow any air?

Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?

HELP we need to know how to take the heater core out of the car....it's a 97 pontiac grand am...
Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?
Open the hood, find the heater hoses. Where they go through the firewall, that will be the heater core. If there are hose clamps there, take them loose and pull the hoses.

Now look at the same place the hoses were inside the car. That's the heater box, the core is inside that. Take out the box,(don't forget there are also wires connected that control the fan, unplug them), remove the core, put the new on in, replace the box, connect the hoses, add coolant as needed.
Change a heater core in pontiac grand am?
best to get a repair manual dash might have to come out
First drain coolant from the cooling system, next, remove the heater coolant hoses, and then remove all the heater box mounting bolts (some are inside and some are in the engine compartment.) Remove the heater box (housing). You may have to loosen the dash to remove the heater box. Then disassemble the box to install the new heater core.
These are a major pain in the *** to replace so prepare yourself for a big bill or a long time to do this. You have to drain the coolant system some and remove the hoses to the core under the hood. Then start removing all sorts of panels and dash parts to get at the core. On some of these cars we had to remove the entire dash to get access at the HVAC duct work. I would get an exploded view of the dash and the directions to do this from the dealer. Good luck.

    Removal Procedure

    Remove the HVAC module assembly.

Remove the heater core case cover screws and cover.

Remove the heater core bracket screws and brackets.

Remove the heater core from the HVAC module assembly.

    Installation Procedure

Install the heater core to the HVAC module assembly.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Is it hard to change a heater core in a pontiac 2002 sunfire?
In most cars, changing the heater core requires that you empty out all the engine coolant, then get inside your car and take apart your center console until the core is accessible. To find out how involved it is for your Sunfire, check a service manual or go to an auto store and look it up in a chilton's book. In my opinion it's not hard, but it is a pain in the ***. I recommend having a six-pack on standby.

Actually not that hard, but the bolts and screws are hard to find, - if you don't know where to look!

a heater core can be a very easy job if you know what you are doing it takes a lot of time yes but fairly easy. but you can also run in to a lot of other problems along the way a licensed auto shop should really do this and they grantee all of the work auto zone will guarantee the parts but a shop will usually get better parts with longer warranty's and for less money talk to your local shop before starting this project i get that you are tyring to save money doing it this way but talk to them first it may save you in the long run

Also check the valve on the incoming line before it enters the firewall to the core. A bad valve is an easy fix compared to the nightmare of replacing a heater core.
Look for wet carpet on the passenger floorboard, indicating a leaking heater core.

Replacing one is pretty labor intensive, as they're up under the dash.

    1. Take the glove box out of the vehicle

    2. Remove all dash %26quot;Trim%26quot; to locate the screws that are hidden, then remove all screws.

    3. Go to the engine compartment and disconnect all %26quot;Heater Core supply and return lines.

    4. carefully locate hardware connecting heater core to firewall, then remove.

    5. Replace with new heater core and reconnect supply and return water lines.

    6. NOW TEST! BEFORE you replace all dash components.

The 98 model heater core is vertically mounted, thus the dash must be removed and the top of the evaporator case removed for access. The book shows roughly 7 hours of labor.

A Ford tech that does this often can beat this time pretty easily, but if you have only done it a few times or never, it will take that amount of time.

The one who said 15 minutes, good luck. Love to see you do it!! Now the older trucks were quite easy, and 15 minutes on those was about right. Not gonna happen with the new body style, though.

Yes you will have to pull the dash. I did one on an 87 mustang and they are similar. I used a Hanes manual I got from the parts store and also went to the Ford garage and talked with one of the mechanics. You don't need to take it all the way out just pull it back and down from it's typical position and then reach over. It is a little awkward, but it saves having to disconnect everything under there. If you have a center console that would have to be removed to allow the dash to come back and down. Steering col um will have to be unbolted and dropped down. You don't have to take out. get the manual and talk to a ford mechanic if possible.

behind the dash there is a thing called the blendoor, it is a door thet basicly opens and closes on the heater core to either let heat into the vents or block heat from entering your vents, these always brake on fords. yours is stuck closed to the heater core. have this checked.

    Feel the heater hoses.

    1) hoses warm, heater cold, probably a broken/not working air door in the heater air box, or control broken.

    Heater Core

    REMOVAL %26amp; INSTALLATION

    CAUTION

Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
