How do you change heater core on 99 lincoln continental?

4.6L V8 DOHC please help big job little $|||You have to access the heater core under the dash it is in the heater box.

The air cond tubes have to come out to it is a big job . Costs about $ 300.00 bucks .

The flap is controlled by a vacuum valve behind the glove box. Pull the clear vacuum line off to get

constant heat. It will probably burn you out though,

To fix, it needs a new valve that goes under the dash pad on the passenger side. Don%26#039;t remember what ford calls it. Costs about 28.00 from the dealer.

It hooks to the temp controll on the dash that you move to change temp.|||take it to a good, and I mean good, mechanic, got it?|||Go to a professional mechanic its not easy!|||take it out and put the old one in!|||Unless you know what you are doing, I would not do it myself. Did you bleed it ? What kind of car ? Are you turning the heater on while you fill it with water ?|||Remember, when you fill the system, fill about a gallon, then have the vehicle running, and turn your heater on high, then add the rest slowly with an idle of about 1,500 to 2,000 rpm.|||you have an air lock. when refilling collant, find the highest level of water ,like highest water hose, fill till it wont take anymore ,losen that hose and bleed the air out of the system. then keep filling till water comes out of that hose, reinstall that hose , fill it up .crank let engine run till the themostate opens.shut off engine let coll then ck water level, top it off ,this should help,if not poss head gasket could be blown.GET ER DONE..

backflushing (running water thru it in the opposite direction of normal flow)

[HC outlet flows to water pump, so flush from water pump side to backflush!]|||Not much more you can do, the sediment lodged in the core is from radiator rust. This rust comes from old coolant that was never replaced and the coolant becomes acidic and eats away at the internals of the engine. The core is made up of fins and they are small so the rust backs itself up inside of the core and the radiator. Now do you realize by not changing the coolant regularly, this acidic liquid also eats away at the freeze plugs and the water pump and the head gasket? Antifreeze to change is cheap,($20), internal cooling and engine parts are not. Put yourself on a routine and change the coolant every 2 or 3 years.

good luck.......|||use the super clean or radiator flush.......use a funnel and pout the entire contents into the hose and let it sit in core.........

漏 2008 ALLDATA LLC.|||i just replaced one in a grand am a few weeks ago. start by removing heater hoses at bottom of firewall then i had to remove center console, shifter, radio, heater/air controls. it took a couple of hours. the heater core was only $30.00 at auto zone.|||Are you sure you want to tackle this ??? It isnt an easy job but if you must I%26#039;ll try to explain it to you but you will have to answer a question first as its been a while for me. The most important question is Are the heater hoses in the center of the car just above the rack and pinion steering unit ??? if they are you DO NOT have to remove the dash. You just have to be able to wiggle it out. there should be 6 or 8 screws, 9/32 i believe underneath the housing just above the center of your floorboard. Now after you remove them you have to remove the cover and the heater core will be right there. Just remove the four screws and straps holding it. Sounds to easy I know....

I know to get the dash out I got to remove the steering column, gauge cluster, radio and glove box to get to the dash bolts. At least thats what the Napa guy said.|||that cost a lot|||This is easy. First, open the glove box and remove the access panel in the back, this will allow you to access some of the 9/32 screws. Then remove the screws holding the panels under the dash, and you%26#039;ll see the cover bolted on with about 10 of these 9/32 screws.... Remove all these, then wiggle the panel out, its tight but it fits. Now remove the 1/4 screws on the core straps. Go under the hood now, unhook the core hoses (clamp them off if possible, though you won%26#039;t lose a ton of coolant from these ... And make sure the engine is cold)

Now the core should come right out, reverse procedure to finish.

Heater core hard to change? Lots of labour involved? Any info will help. Thank you.|||wont shift when it,s hot? well it sounds like a weak pump to me. i worked on a pontiac and it acted similar to that 1 and it was the front pump. heater core? you have to get to that behind the glove box and heater ducts. as for the heater core it would,nt be that bad but knowing the transmission is,nt changing gears when it,s hot you could be getting into some money there. another thing it could be is the modulator valve on the side.|||changing the core is not a huge problem. the sticky transmission is prolly caused by a bad spring or valve in th valve body of the transmission. failry easy fix either way . you should check the tranny fluid of course to see if it burnt or really dirty before you buy though because this could mean more work than you are ready for.

If so you could have installed the New Thermostat Wrong and it%26#039;s Stuck Open?|||you should never bypass the control vlv for the heater that is what it is there for.cause the coolent gets it heat from the engine which works off the control which is a vaccum control vlv u need to hook back up in the loop the why it was|||Ouch...I know your pain...replaced the heater core Pont had to take apart the entire dash.

All I can say is........thermostat.....are you sure you got the right one....are you sure its working.....opening at the right temp.....I would make SURE that its OK before going any further....|||Sounds like you may have air pockets in the system. If you have bleeder valves on the hoses then check the coolant level in the radiator not the overflow tank to make sure it is full then run the jeep then open the valves one at a time to bleed off the air and if there are no valves then loosen the heater outlet hose so air can bleed out as the system is filled.|||Because you%26#039;ve got air in the system. With the car cool, start it up and open the radiator. fill it with coolant till it%26#039;s full, then wait till the thermostat opens. The level will drop. Fill it again and let it run till it starts to backflush, then cap it and you should be good to go.

Heater doesn't work in Jeep, after changing heater core/thermo.?

Ok, so I%26#039;ve been working on getting some heat in my 92 Jeep Cherokee. I tried the thermostat first, thinking for sure that was the problem. Nope. So I checked my hoses, looking for clogs and such, I notcied nasty rust colored gunk on the inside of the heater core inlet/outlets. So I figured it was bad.

I ordered a new one and busted my butt putting it in, practically taking out my entire dash assembly in the freezing cold. On the way, I checked the operation of all my vents and they seemed to work fine. So anyways, long story short, I got it in and put everything back together. Fired it up, let it run for 25. Turned on the heat...practically started blowing snow. Tried vent, same story.

What the #$%@! I%26#039;m so frustrated. Give me some ideas, what am I not thinking of? I know the water pump is pumping strong. I%26#039;m just clueless. Help!!|||there is a control valve that controls the amount of coolant that flows to the heater core. (thats how temp is controlled). make sure that it is physically opening up and that that area is not plugged. you could also have an air lock in the heater core pull the line of the outlet and ensure you have a good flow of coolant. you also dont say if the engine itself is coming up to temp, cold coolant in no heat out!. also some heater cores have backflow valves(not sure on your application) if you hook up the core backwards you will not get coolant flow(again remove hose and check for flow.|||give it a radiator flush, all that crap in the radiator well be flushed out and u will have heat|||Something in your Jeep regulates the flow,no flow, of hot water through the core...Maybe electical, manual or vacuum operated....It could be the heater control valve is bad or the vacuum , electrical or manual actuation is not working...Track it down from the heater control valve back to the actuator souce...Cruddy rust in your cooling system is caused by neglect...a chemical fush and new anti freeze/water is in order|||check flow of water though core by useing hand to see if temp is same upper and lower heater hose if is same core ok then check if heater box doors work by cotrol on dash you should have check this when repaceing core also make shure heater is bleed free or air go to rad cap loosen with engine cold or be very careful run engine with cap oiff and watch for bubbles top off rad and surge tank and let run you should have heat if not email me with engine info etc.

How do I change the heater core on a '95 chevy caprice?

I have no heat in the car. I changed the thermostat then flushed the heater core then flushed radiator. I put cardboard in front of radiator. Still no heat! Cold in michigan!

Do I need to change the core or is there something I%26#039;m missing?|||The only time you should have to change the heater core is when it%26#039;s leaking. I would have to look at it to exactly know, but you should check the following:

Does your heater motor work?

Is your coolant level up?

Is there an air lock? do you need to bleed the system?

Does the engine run hot? ( you might have a bad water pump)

What is the heat range on your new thermostat?

Lastly, if anybody was fooling around under the dash they may have un plugged one of the vacuum lines that go to your heat selection switch. Try to get under there or remove the board that the switch is on and carefully inspect the back of the switch. You want to make sure that all the vacuum lines are plugged in without un plugging anything.

Good luck|||NATHANIEL G has some good points and covers good areas however, I have seen heater cores in need of replacement due to plug up. In most cases it has been on GM vehicles because of the lack of performing coolant flushes. GM claims one can go 5 years or 100K miles before flushing the system out because dex-cool is supposed have longer life. Anyone thats been in the business long enough knows otherwise and thats why we recommend to our customers that the coolant be power flushed as soon as their GM warranty expires. That stuff turns to gel and causes all sorts of problems.

On a final note, NATHANIEL G suggested you check the heater control valve. Thats actually the first thing I would have checked, I%26#039;ll walk you through it. Now I%26#039;m going assume that this is your only problem since you were not too specific in regards to weather or not the car is actually reaching operating temperature. Once your car is fully warmed, locate your heater control valve which should be toward the firewall on your right side in the engine compartment. Now physically turn that valve to the opposite direction and hold it there while someone sits in the car with the heater on. Did warm air come out? If yes, then now you have to find out why; Is there a vacuum hose broken? etc. If not, thats the best I can do without you giving us further information and even then it%26#039;s hard to diagnose things without physically being there. Good luck!|||should be passenger side up under the dash,

How hard is it and how long to change heater core in 92 astro van?

the front heater core has a very small leak in it, I am not looking for a quick fix I just want to know how long and how difficult it is to remove and intsall a new one, I can purchase the heater core for like $18.00 on ebay and I am thinking about doing this myself. thanks|||Depending on your skills, it probably takes a few to several hours to do. Best thing to do is get a repair manual like a Chilton or Haynes from a parts store (they run around 25.00) or online through Eautorepair.net---small fee---and read the procedure on doing it. If it seems like too much work, get some quotes from repair shops on doing the job.

Changing nova heater core 1970?

Anyone have any tips or steps on how to change the heater core on a non a/c 1970 bbc nova. Going to do it tommorow and have heard a lot of ways you can. any tips let me know|||never done a nova, but i am sure they are like any other Chevy, two hoses, a cable and about 10 screws holding it to the firewall. don;t have to drain the colling system, just undo your hoses and tie them up so they don%26#039;t; drain, drain as much coolant out of the core as you can, if you have it, use air to blow it out, then unbolt it, i don%26#039;t; know if it goes to the inside to come out, or if you can take it out through the engine compartment.

Changing the heater core in a 1997 f150 -4.6L?

I bought a chiltons book but it shows nothing more than the cover that has to come off. the problem is getting to that cover. Do I need to take the whole dash off to get the heater core out. that%26#039;s the only way I can see getting it out.|||yes and the books calls for 7 hours to replace the heater core ,the dash and every thing comes out ,good luck|||if i am not mistaken, i think the dash has to come out to get to it|||I am not familiar with the 97%26#039;s but I have changed the core on older Fords.

Before you take the whole thing apart try taking the glove compartment out. On some of the mid-late 80%26#039;s it was possible to reach the heater core that way.|||I am not familiar with the 97%26#039;s but I have changed the core on older Fords.

Before you take the whole thing apart try taking the glove compartment out. On some of the mid-late 80%26#039;s it was possible to reach the heater core that way.

====================

Yep, you%26#039;re not familiar.

All the important guts are way up behind the dash and enough stuff needs to be undone that the glove box itself coming out won%26#039;t do the trick.

This is not my 94 Ranger we%26#039;re talking about. 15 minutes and done.

I'm changing the heater core in a 1994 Ford ranger 4x4. Can someone tell me how to do it & is it hard to do?

Now its been a while, but I believe you go under the dash on the passenger side. There will be some plastic retainers holding the formed kick guard in place, pull those out. When you get down to the plastic area, there should be 4 screws or bolts holding it on, remove those and pull the plastic piece away. Don%26#039;t forget to drain the coolant system first.

Now, under the hood, find the feed and return line from the heater core and remove them from the heater core. The core should now prettry easily pull back and then down out from under the dash. Place new heater core in, re atttach hoses in engine compartment, replace plastic piece under heater core, and put the formed kick guard back on. Now refill the system with coolant and test out your new heater core.|||lamarin is right, check the following web site: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090鈥?/a> ...Good Luck...

And it%26#039;s a piece of cake. About an hour if you%26#039;re not in a hurry!!

When changing a heater core in a 2000 GMC Jimmy, do you have to disconnect airbags and if so how do you do it?

STOP---do not attempt this yourself---if you think the air bags are hooked up to the heater--you obviously do NOT know enough to do this complicated dirty job. Let a shop do right.|||I attempted it myself. Not a problem. Not that complicated or dirty. Nothing was damaged. Heater works great. Saved myself about $800.00.

Changing heater core on 1985 Camaro?

Has anyone ever changed a heater core on a 1985 Z28 Camaro. I called 5 places and they all say it will take over 7 hours to change it and they want $565 and up.They said they have to take the whole dash out. I know you have to drain coolant and take the two hoses off and that the core is behind the dash just don%26#039;t know the best way to get to it.. Auto zone site says you have to remove the lower right instrument panel to access the heater core box. One other site said to take the top dash pad off to get to it. I thank you for any help you can give.|||you have to remove the whole dash b/c its behind the dash.

How do you change heater core for 99 Ford Expedition?

Front heater core is leaking. Is it hard to change?|||It takes a professional about 6 hours of book time to do the job,to give you an idea how hard.|||Very hard dash has to be removed

to gain access to heater box .

I need information on changing the heater core in a 1991 mercury tracer?

Changing the heater core is very hard and difficult due to the restricksions [spelling] of the under dash area you have to work with. If you are not a good workman you should not try to do this. Pay the %26quot;400.00%26quot;

Where can I find info on changing a heater core on 95 ford ranger?

haynes or chilton manual at the parts store|||you need to buy a chevy|||Right here at Answer.com

Can anyone tell me how to go about changing a heater core in a 1985 Ltd crown victoria?

You should be able to remove your glove box, there should be a cover for the heater core, youll also need to diconect the two heater hoses in the engine compatrment going thru the firewall.|||its not coming out the glove box have the towncar which is the same car basically you gotta drop the dashboard, go to www.lincolnonlineforum.com it will give you step by step instuctions look in the tech section|||Not for the weak of heart. The entire dash must come out then the heater box.Best left to pros.

Changing the heater core on an 06 dodge stratus?

Why do you have to take the steering wheel off to do this?|||you don%26#039;t have to remove the wheel, but like they said already, you have to drop the column to the floor. but that is the least of your worries. you have to evacuate the a/c system, remove you center console, disconnect or remove components that hold the instrument panel, pull the whole instrument panel back and lay across the seats or take it completely out, then remove the heater box and dissasemble. this is a major job. if you think you can tackle it yourself i would at least recommend a manual from a parts store.|||why is that not covered by warranty? prolly to get the dash panel off it may be a one piece dash.|||I don%26#039;t think so. Do you know where it is located? They are generally on the passenger side of the car or in the center it may even be just outside the firewall on the bottom without being able to look I can%26#039;t tell you for sure I have changed them on different vehicles though and it can be a pain so good luck|||No you don%26#039;t have to take the steering wheel off but the steering column needs to be dropped down. Why do you want to replace the heater core. If you have under 36000 miles it will be covered under warranty and if it is over, there is no way it should be leaking in 2yrs time. It may be plugged up but would not count on that. Take it to a Dodge dealer and speak with the Service Manager. The only way it should not be covered is if the vehicle is %26quot;salvaged%26quot;|||your getting ready to take on a real hard job,you might want to call a dealer and see if this might be covered under warranty, because if its not your going to have to lay the whole entire dash over in the floor in order to get the heater box out of it,and this means evac-the air conditioner also,I%26#039;m telling you,that%26#039;s one job you,ll probably be better off paying to have done, its very long and very hard to do,no easy way on this one at all, good luck with it.|||I agree with dodge man. All Dodges and Chryslers, AND jeepsters have to have the dash removed to get to the heater/AC assembly. And the unit has to be removed and disassembled to get the heater core out. That%26#039;s why you have to drop the steering column. For me it was easier to just remove it from the car. It ain%26#039;t no job for the faint hearted.|||THEY ASK YOU TO DO THIS SO THAT YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO PULL THE DASH BACK AND NOT TEAR UP THE STEERING OR BREAK THE DASH.

ALSO FROM PAST EXPERIENCE I NEVER TAKE OF THE STEERING WHEEL BUT I DO LOWER THE STEERING COLUMN, MOVE THE SEAT BACK AND MOVE THE DASH DOWN AS FAR AS POSSIBLE AFTER I COVER THE WHEEL AND COLUMN WITH A FENDER COVER.

ALSO I KNOW THAT IT WAS ASKED, BUT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY.........
